(My) Humans of Ghana Pt. VIII

"This is Princess. You see how she cant stand alone without my help, well its because of what happened back in July. I'm sure you've heard, it happened while you were home, and its the reason we now have these big speed bumps in town. After school one day Princess and Prince were walking to meet me at the store. I heard Princess crying and told her to come. I wasn't looking at the road, it was 2pm drivers should go slow at this time because they know the school children will be plenty in the road. This moto driver didn't see her and he hit Princess and the front tire went over the right side of her body. She was bleeding from the head and her right leg. We took her to Babile but it was too much so they sent us to the hospital. They did one surgery on her head but the next day they said she would need more plenty surgeries and recommended us to Tamale teaching hospital. From July to November we were in and out of that hospital for surgeries. 4 surgeries later Princess hasn't fully recovered but we are trying to do physical therapy everyday to make her strong. The problem is our store was closed for those 4 months so we've suffered. I've had to go back to work at the shop and my husband went back to work as a teacher and now im pregnant again. All of these things have made it difficult to keep up with doing the physical therapy, but we are managing. Luckily the driver of the moto didn't run after the accident and hes been helping us pay some of the hospital bills. We are grateful to God that he has allowed her to recover. It used to be that the whole right side didn't work, but now she can use her arm and hand small and we hope one day he'll allow her to walk on her own again. Do you remember last year how she used to fear you and now everytime she hears your name or sees you she laughs and laughs and laughs. So at least we know shes still a happy child." -Translated by Madame Agnes
